Water Environment Federation House of Delegates Interview with Kyle Yukumoto, HWEA Delegate

 

The Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair (HSSEF) is an annual science fair held to showcase the innovation and research performed by students in middle schools and high schools across the state. HWEA participates in special awards judging, to identify and award high school students whose projects prove exemplary in the field of water environment research. HWEA congratulates our regional winners listed below:

Project Title: “When Tourism Stopped: The Effects of Hawaii’s Tourism Industry on Ocean Pollution”

Tara Makena Ferguson & Jasmine Cadotte, Kalaheo High School 

Project Title: “Using Computer Algorithms & Sensors To Effectively Optimize Water Usage for Indigenous Plant Irrigation”

Landon Choy, Kamehameha Schools Kapālama 

Project Title: “Harnessing the Energy in Waves to Generate Electricity” 

Hope Rosenbush, Kamehameha Schools Kāpalama 

Project Title: “PH Levels and Their Effect on Urchin Fertilization”

Benjamin Whitehurst, Pearl City High School 

Project Title: “Watershed Computer Game”

Kailee Tanaka & Marissa Kusumoto, Iolani School

Project Title: “Quantification of the Concentration of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Waikiki beach waters” 

These regional winners have been invited to submit their projects to the State Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) competition to further showcase their work at a state level, with potential of advancing to the national, and international SJWP competitions.
